School Traditions - House Competitions

House Competitions

Solebury's entire student body, faculty, and staff are divided up into four houses named after the school's founders: Holmquist, Washburn, Lathrop, and Erskine. Houses compete throughout the year for house points, with a winning house awarded at year's end.

New students and staff are sorted into houses during Convocation.

School Traditions - Convocation

Convocation

While the spring Commencement ceremony is about celebrating the completion of the student’s time at Solebury, Convocation is about celebrating the beginning of a Solebury experience. It gives us a moment to come together as a community at the start of the school year, to reflect upon the academic year ahead of us, and, above all, it gives us an opportunity to warmly welcome the new students and faculty/staff joining our community.

School Traditions - Soccer Under the Lights

Soccer Under the Lights

Every fall, the girls and boys varsity soccer teams play a local rival school in a night game, under the lights. It's a fun evening for the entire community: students, parents, faculty, and alumni to support something bigger than themselves, all cheering for one common goal. This is usually an all day event from the Pep Rally before the game to fire pits and concession stand food during the game. We also take this community event to celebrate all fall senior athletes in the half time event. It's a fun evening for students, parents, faculty, and alumni.

School Traditions - Service Day

Service Day

An age-old Solebury tradition, all students, faculty, and staff roll up our sleeves and participate in a day of giving back. Everyone gets to choose from a dozen causes and projects and then work either on or off campus. It's a wonderful way to honor our school's big giving heart.

School Traditions - STEM

STEM Week

Held every October, Solebury School’s math and science departments host an incredible week of learning to engage all of our students—and to possibly inspire future careers—in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and math. The week culminates in a fun school-wide activity.

School Traditions - Arts Fest

Arts Festival Week

Every spring, students and faculty immerse themselves in the arts with an exciting week of workshops, performances, field trips, and lectures by professional artists, teachers, and even the occasional student.

A Winter Celebration

To celebrate the winter holidays, students, parents, and faculty come together for a true celebration of the cultures and traditions represented in the Solebury community. It includes performances by our chorus, the sharing of traditional foods, and more.

Coffee House

Every trimester, students and teachers get the opportunity to showcase their talents during Coffee House. In an informal atmosphere, anyone can sing, recite poetry, perform dance, or play an instrument. This fun-filled evening attracts all members of the Solebury community.

Senior Class/Board of Trustees Dinner

During this special night in January, our senior class is welcomed into the ranks of alumni by our Board of Trustees with a formal pinning ceremony.

White Out Basketball Games

Every winter, the girls and boys varsity basketball teams play a rival school in a double header night game. The White Out game is a Solebury annual tradition that draws a big crowd, has a great concession stand, and is an overall fun event. We also take this community event to celebrate all winter senior athletes in the half time event. Oh and don't forget, let's WHITE OUT the stands by wearing white!
